To Tat or Not To Tat – that is the question…?

I want to get a new tattoo – a delicate back piece of either a cherry blossom branch or ribbons. I have two existing tats already and want to add to my collection. All my body art so far has deep meaning and significance to me and so would the new design I may/or may not do on my back.

The dilemma is that when I met my present husband he was OK with the thought of getting a tattoo and now he has changed his mind. We both got tats at the same time (in 2004) and he loved it. My second tat (2006) came when he questioned me what I wanted for my B-day and I told him I wanted this. He didn’t say much and was pleased that he got me what made me pleased. He recently questioned me what I wanted for Christmas/B-day and when I told him I wanted the back piece, well he didn’t say NO, but he made a face. I talked to him about it and he told me that he didn’t mind the other two because they are smaller and very concealable, but a back piece may be too much.

I reckon that if I get someone to draw it out on my back in marker before hand, maybe it will help him (and myself) see if it really is too much or if my design proves to be sexy and not a turn off.

My design is either a slender delicate cherry blossom branch running diagonally from my left hip to my right shoulder. I will be full of blossoms except for four which will appear to be floating in water that will run horizontally across from hip to hip. I don’t want hard outlines on the blossoms, they will appear to be airbrushed, as well as the water. And the branch will not be the typical knotty, woody type depicted in most images of cherry blossoms. Branch, blossoms and water all have deep significance to my life and this would be a color tat.

The other design I have in mind is a ribbon down my spine beginning at the nape and ending in a surround around an existing tat on the small of my back. The ribbon will start at the bottom looping around the existing tat and then in a swirly looping pattern go up my spine. Each loop will represent a person and there will be four loops that will cast shadows (another representation) and it will end at the nape of my neck in a bow. This one will be black and white.

Truth is that I really want this but I don’t want to distance my husband any more than he already is. We are not as close as we were when we got our first tats and I don’t know if this will drive us further apart or not make a dent at all. Our relationship is strained due to 4 teenage kids – not much else. The kids like the thought that I would do a tattoo like this and fully support me if I choose to do this. They all say he’s turned into a fuddy duddy and conservative and that I should be right to who I am back then and now.

Uuggh! Can’t make up my mind!
I’m 42 , but I don’t look it at all! Still get carded at liquor stores.

I am getting a tattoo of a bat on my back (see pictures below of where and of what I know its not centered but it will be) I got it airbrushed in Santa Clara and I fell in like with it. But I’m not sure if I want to add more to it to make it a small more femenine or not, I know the tattoo is for me and I’m not doing this for anyone else I’m just having a creative block and need some suggestions. I AM getting the bat part no matter what and the bat part will be all black

Bat- Death and Rebirth, Guardian of the Night, Cleaner, Longevity, Joy, Excellent luck

I like magic and fantastical creatures, my favorite flowers are Tiger Lilly’s, Star Gazers, and Roses

Im getting a tattoo and im also getting an airbrush tan

Before the 8th of september

Which way round should i do it, spray tan before or after

Not in the same day ofcourse

If after i would obviously wait for my tattoo to heal

So i should get the tan before then huh?

Because i only have until the 8th of next month
Yes but the thing is if i covered it then i’d have a white patch on my back

Not very flattering

So its chose i’ll get the tan before my tattoo

Thanku very much to everyone who has ansered : ]
